A full Energii reformer class in motion

    Our Story

From one reformer in Copenhagen to the Nordic leader

It started with an idea on Ibiza, ten reformer machines and a woman who refused to make pilates boring. Today Energii is the first and largest reformer chain — with studios across Greater Copenhagen, the rest of Denmark, Stockholm, Oslo, and on the way into new markets.

    The beginning

    An idea that changed everything

Summer 2011. Gitte Mia Salling had already lived an entire life in fitness. She opened her first training centre at 19 — Krop & Hop in Greve — and ran it for nine years with 25 employees. She then spent five years as head of group training at one of Denmark's largest fitness chains, helping open the first 100 studios and educating more than 4,000 instructors.

    But something was missing.

In May 2010, Gitte sold everything and travelled to Miami. Six months of sun, training and an open mind. It was on Ibiza, with her friend and now business partner Carsten Mikkelsen, that she lay down on a reformer machine for the first time — taught in a class of two, with no music and no energy.

Her first reaction? "I wasn't ready to stop when the instructor counted down. I missed motivating music and the class dynamic I've always loved." But the machine fascinated her. Strength, mobility, balance — all on one device. The classic pilates approach, however, was too slow and quiet for her.

So Gitte built her own concept and her own exercises. She removed 90% of the pilates elements. Added strength training, more tempo and motivating house music. The result was something entirely new: The Ultimate Workout — 50 minutes of group training on the reformer that feels like personal training, just with others sweating and laughing alongside you.

    Day one

    12 December 2011

    The original Energii studio reception

Ten reformer machines. One room on Ny Kongensgade in central Copenhagen. No major investors. No franchise plan. Just a conviction that the training was so good, people would come.

    They came.

Within the first month, Energii had twice as many members as expected. Everyone was surprised by how hard the training actually was — and how addictive it felt. This wasn't the quiet, calm pilates people knew. It was demanding, with laughter, music and results.

    The growth

From Copenhagen to the Nordics — and beyond

    2011

Energii City opens on Ny Kongensgade with ten reformers. Denmark's first reformer studio is born.

    2012

Energii Lyngby opens in April — the first studio outside Copenhagen. The same year: a studio in Miami.

    2013

The Ibiza studio opens in May. Energii goes international — proving the concept travels across cultures.

    2014–2015

Østerbro, Hørsholm, Aarhus. Energii grows from one studio to seven in three years. 50+ employees and 150 trained instructors across Denmark, Spain and the US.

    2016–2020

Frederiksberg, Holte, Greve, Hillerød. Each new studio bigger than the last. Heat It Up® launches — Energii's own infrared concept. Bungee Fly arrives, developed by Gitte herself.

    2021–2024

Explosive growth. Copenhagen S, Ø, Nørrebro, Islands Brygge, Charlottenlund. Energii becomes the undisputed largest reformer chain with 30+ studios — several among the largest in the world.

    2025

A turning point. Energii partners with Standard Investment, setting course for the Nordics. Konrad Kierklo joins as CEO. Gitte moves into the role of Creative Director.

    2026

    Innovation

    We never stopped inventing

Energii has never been just the reformer. It's a culture of constant development — of finding new ways to challenge the body.

Heat It Up infrared training room

    Heat It Up®

Energii's own concept. Training in a 30-degree infrared-heated room — 10+ different formats that build mobility, strength and flexibility. The infrared warms muscles and joints from within, so you can push harder and recover faster.

    Bungee Fly class in motion

    Bungee Fly

The fun, demanding workout where you hang in elastics and defy gravity. High calorie burn, low impact, and an experience that gets people laughing (and crying a little).

From Classic Pilates Reformer to Signature Reformer, from Essence Pilates to corporate training — Energii today offers a complete universe of formats, all sharing the same DNA: intensity, music, energy and community.

    The driving force

"If the fire goes out, I change direction."

Gitte Salling has built Energii on a simple philosophy: the training has to be so good people never stop.

Every single instructor is trained by Gitte personally. More than 100 instructors teach monthly across all studios. Quality is non-negotiable — regular workshops, new exercises, higher standards.

Today Gitte is Creative Director at Energii. She has handed the CEO seat to Konrad Kierklo so she can focus on what she's most passionate about: developing the training, securing quality and keeping Energii's DNA intact as the chain grows into the world.

"It has been a privilege to lead Energii through all these years," Gitte says. "If the fire goes out, I change direction — but it has never burned stronger than now."

That fire has burned for over 37 years. From dance instructor at 15. From her own fitness centre at 19. Through adversity, illness and an industry in constant change. The fire is still there — now with full focus on the creative.
